L.A. Times are reporting that red-head Amy Adams has been chosen as The Daily Planet's top reporter and Clark Kent's true love - the famously brunette Lois Lane in Superman: The Man of Steel. Director Zack Snyder called her up today on a Sunday, just as he did with the life changing news to Henry Cavill that he was Superman two months ago. Cool casting, but probably just because of her natural hair colour, not one I could have come up with on my own. If you had told me that director Zack Snyder was searching for an actress to play Clark Kent's high-school sweetheart Lana Lang, I probably would have drawn up red-head Amy Adams quite quickly because she's never played anything else (I'm sure someone will be quick to correct me!), but that doesn't mean her hiring isn't less cool. Hell, she's a three time Oscar nominated actress and simply in a different league to the previous holder of the role, Kate Bosworth. And hair dye doesn't cost much when you have a $200 million budget. Adams has shown in a bunch of movies that she exudes high spirits (Enchanted), a slight naivety & vulnerability (Doubt), intelligence (Julia and Julia) and most recently a feisty, super strong and tough natural core (her Oscar nominated turn in The Fighter) - all important hallmarks of Lois Lane ever since Margot Kiddor defined her personality in Richard Donner's 70's movies. And of course she's a great looking gal with a personality and smile to dye for, qualities which Lois simply has to have. She does tame the Superman after all. After rumours that Lois Lane wouldn't appear in Snyder's reboot at all, I'm just glad she's turning up and it sounds like in a big way. It just wouldn't feel right with her not part of the film. Now all Snyder needs to do is convince Michael Shannon or Edgar Ramirez to play Zod... because with Cavill (Superman), Adams (Lois Lane), Kevin Costner (Pa Kent) & Diane Lane (Martha Kent), this is shaping up superbly.
