3. Thrilling Action Sequences

True to form, Yimou serves up some deliriously entertaining action here. The strong visual effects, sharp cinematography and Yimou's generally skilled control of the camera combine to ensure the set-pieces, of which there are many, are dynamic and consistently entertaining.

Nobody should come to this movie for the story, so at least Yimou smartly doubled down on the insane action, and to that end the film just about manages to justify the price of admission.

Basically, the various battle sequences against the beasts are fast-paced, varied and straight-up fun to soak in.
