The Heat 2 Was Almost Scary Silence Of The Lambs-Like Comedy

Feig has been talking to Den Of Geek about the gestation of the new Ghostbusters comedy - something he says Sony would have made regardless of whether he had done it, and how many fans complained about the sanctity of the originals - and has revealed an interesting point about a once planned The Heat sequel.
The original film was something of a winner for Feig, helping to pull him out of movie jail - by his own admission - and capitalising on strange, beautiful comic chemistry between Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock. Given its success, it was inevitable that a sequel would follow, but Bullock very publicly pulled out in 2013 saying she couldn't imagine working on a sequel unless a miracle script dropped out of the sky.
Her fears were about tarnishing what they originally created - somewhat ironically given the dominant conversation about Ghostbusters at the minute - but passing meant we missed out on a great sounding sequel. Feig has just told Den Of Geek that he and Katie Dippold came up with and wrote a sequel for the film that would have gone in a scarier direction:
"We had the idea then of doing a scary comedy. The sequel to The Heat would have been a funny The Silence Of The Lambs. We were so bummed that we couldn’t make it, because Sandra [Bullock] didn’t want to. We were looking for a scary comedy."
The film would have been about a serial killer, teaming the most unlikely buddy cops back up and shifting to a darker tone by the sound of it.
Ultimately it didn't happen, obviously, and Feig instead channelled his desire to make a scary comedy into Ghostbusters after initially passing on the project when it was a straight up Ghostbusters 3 with the old gang involved more heavily.
