The Hunger Games: 12 Actresses Who Could Have Been Katniss Everdeen

By Alex Antliff /

12. Abigail Breslin

Despite having only turned sixteen last year, Abigail Breslin has now been acting for eleven years, having first starred in M. Night Shyamalan€™s Signs at the age of five in 2002. A series of forgettable films followed before she featured alongside Alan Arkin, Greg Kinnear, Toni Colette and Steve Carrell in 2006€™s Little Miss Sunshine, a road trip film that saw her play a child beauty queen. Darkly comedic, the role saw her nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the age of nine. Roles in films such as My Sister€™s Keeper, Zombieland and Rango followed in subsequent years. Despite her experience and previous Oscar nod seemingly making her a strong contender for the part, Breslin€™s audition for Katniss was a not a successful one. Instead, she can currently be seen in €˜The Call€™, a Halle Berry led thriller that has failed to captivate critics, but is on track to become WWE Studios most successful film to date.
