The Hunger Games Catching Fire Trailer - 5 Reasons It Proves The Film Will Be Awesome

By Joseph Dempsey /

Yesterday, the first official trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was revealed at the MTV Movie Awards. The successor to 2012's The Hunger Games, Catching Fire once more follows Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark and Haymitch Abernathy in their toils against President Snow's evil Capitol. Set for release this November, Catching Fire is the second in the trilogy of films, and stars Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones and Willow Shields. With excitement now reaching a fever pitch for the successor to the popular first film, we thought we'd highlight five reasons why Catching Fire will be awesome.

5. The Wrath Of President Snow

In the first film, The Hunger Games, we saw each of the 12 Districts of Panem forced into entering a boy and a girl into the 74th annual Hunger Games tournament - a brutal (and very public) fight to the death inside an arena as punishment for a previous rebellion against the tyrannical and totalitarian President Snow and the Capitol - his evil regime. When young Primrose Everdeen was called up as a contender for the Games, her sister, Katniss, bravely volunteered as a "Tribute" in her place. Joining her in the Games were Peeta Mellark, a boy from her district, and 22 other competitors. Throughout the film we saw a relationship forge between the two and as Katniss and Peeta became ever closer, the harrowing scenario of their being only one victor became potent. That was, until, as a show of defiance, each chose not to kill the other and instead commit suicide by swallowing lethal Nightlock - until that is the couple are hastily proclaimed joint-victors. But of course, it doesn't end there. President Snow is now embittered, enraged, embarrassed and wants revenge - and he intends to take it. Katniss and Peeta now find themselves in a very vulnerable situation and with the Districts threatening another uprising having witnessed their show of defiance, tensions are simmering to the boil. Snow (played by Donald Sutherland) mentions in the trailer that Katniss must be killed, and we can't wait to see how she's going to get out of this one.
