2. It's Got A Great Message For Kids
Though The Kid Who Would Be King could've just settled for being a frothy adventure flick, it actually has pressing social issues on its mind, though presents them in a way that doesn't intrude upon the fun at all.
Right from the film's opening moments, there are clear nods towards Brexit and the culture of fear being propagated in news media today, with Cornish's script suggesting that the youth of 2019 are the ones best capable of fighting back against all the bile and hatred.
It's a broad enough message that it won't date the film in the future, and is delivered subtly enough that it doesn't elicit groans or feel preachy.
The script takes some complex societal ideas and presents them in an easily digestible fashion for the young crowd, yet commendably does so without talking down to them.
