The Lone Ranger: 10 Things You Probably Didn't Know

6. The Green Hornet Connection

Sure The Lone Ranger and The Green Hornet both have the same kick ass but not entirely convincing disguises but did you know there's much more to these two than meets the eye? You see back when The Lone Ranger was still a serialised radio show it spawned a totally unrelated (at face value) spin-off show called The Green Hornet. The show was equally popular and of course went on to have whole life of its own. What you may not realise though is that the titular Green hero Britt Reid is actually supposed to be the Grand-nephew of the masked law man known to some as Kemo Sabe. Popular Leeds born actor Tom Wilkinson who appears in The Lone Ranger as Latham Cole also appeared in Seth Rogen's take on The Green Hornet as Reid's father James, who of course would also have been related to The Lone Ranger. Although both The Lone Ranger and Green Hornet were created by Fran Striker it is George W. Trendle who claimed complete creative control over the properties and in later years even claimed he came up with them both. To this day Striker's family do not receive a single penny from any use of either character.
