The Lord Of The Rings: 10 Best Characters NOT In The Fellowship

10. Grima Wormtongue

Snivelling and deceptive, Grima Wormtongue was helping to poison the mind of King Théoden as an agent of Saruman. A snide and cruel man, Grima is easy to despise but that is a large reason for why he is such an effective villain.

Grima is repulsive. He always appears moist with his white skin and wet black hair. He crawls about looking for praise but is also incredibly arrogant in the faces of those who could really hurt him. He is a pathetic character that has little room for any sympathy.

When Saruman is defeated at the hands of the Ents, Gandalf, Theoden and company travel to Isengard. Grima stands with his abusive lord at the top of Saruman's tower while both sides talk. Saruman takes the opportunity to slap Grima down when he can which leads the sad and sorry creature to kill the wizard before being shot by Legolas in retaliation. He lived a depraved life but killing a wizard is no small thing.
