The Lord Of The Rings: 10 Most Powerful Items In Middle Earth

10. The Arkenstone

The Arkenstone sits in the middle of pretty much all conflict within the Hobbit.

It was discovered within the heart of Erebor, the lonely mountain, and given to King Thror - Thorin's grandfather. While it granted the king no further powers, no invisibility, no flight or foresight, it does come included with its very own brand of mind-altering property.

Anyone who comes into contact with it becomes obsessed with it, and that's putting it lightly. When the dragon, Smaug, came down upon the mountain, King Thror fought only to save the stone and not his people. Much like his grandfather, Thorin, also became obsessed with the jewel, prizing it above all else. Turns out, the stone carries a little something called Dragon-Sickness, that altered Thorin's mind until he became illogical, self-destructive, and violent.

Thorin was willing to go to war with the people of Laketown, the elves of Mirkwood, armies of orcs, and even his own kin, to keep the Arkenstone in his hands. This jewel, while it may not grant super strength, granted enough super greed to have most races of Middle Earth battling for it.
