8. The Avengers Originally Had Multiple Villains
The future of the MCU hinged on the success of 2012's The Avengers, so it was incredibly important that the movie was wound to perfection.

To that end, writer-director Joss Whedon scripted tons of different iterations in his attempts to find the right story, including a version in which Loki shared the villainous spotlight with Ezekiel "Zeke" Stane - the son of Iron Man villain Obadiah.
One of Whedon's fears was that Loki wouldn't seem like an Avengers-level threat all by himself, but when Kevin Feige nixed the Zeke idea, Whedon was forced to make the God Of Mischief work as the sole antagonist. Which he did.
