A messy but intriguing effort from George Clooney.
Netflix's impressive slate of 2020 prestige movies wraps up with this George Clooney-directed adaptation of Lily Brooks-Dalton's 2016 novel Good Morning, Midnight.
Clooney stars as Augustine Lofthouse, a lonesome scientist residing at an Arctic research post long after a cataclysmic event has wiped out the majority of the world's population.
When he discovers that a spaceship is on its way back to Earth - commanded by Gordon Adewole (David Oyelowo) and his wife Sully (Felicity Jones) - he attempts to warn the crew against returning home.
Though widely hyped as a potential awards contender in most major categories, it's worth getting out of the way immediately that The Midnight Sky isn't going to be snatching gold statues away from anyone.
Critics have been resolutely split down the middle on Clooney's first blockbuster feature, a visually sumptuous yet frustratingly conceived sci-fi drama that compels and baffles in near-equal measure.
For Netflix subscribers it's certainly worth a go considering the minimal investment, even if you may understandably be left expecting a little more from such an enticing assemblage of talent...
