5. The Humour Mostly Falls Flat

The new Mummy's tone is basically all over the place: one minute it's trying to be a genuinely violent horror movie, and the next it's almost unbearably goofy, as Cruise and Wallis' characters go back and forth about how long he lasted during their hook-up a few nights earlier.

There's little of the charm of the prior Mummy movies, and for the most part the comic relief doesn't work, especially Jake Johnson's loud and overbearing sidekick Sgt. Vail, who ends up more annoying than endearing.

You'll laugh, for sure, but for the most part it won't be at the moments that the script actually intends.
