The New Mutants Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs
1. It's A Forgettable End To Fox's X-Men Franchise
Though last year's Dark Phoenix is largely accepted to be the lineal conclusion to Fox's mainline X-Men franchise, The New Mutants hammers the final nail in the coffin, bringing the 20-year movie series sputtering to an unceremonious end.
And that might be the most depressing thing about it, really: a franchise which played a major role in popularising the superhero film years before the MCU ended up going out on its back with a movie which doesn't even really feel finished.
While certainly not the very worst entry into Fox's X-Men franchise - that surely goes to X-Men Origins: Wolverine - it's almost as offensive through just how utterly beige and forgettable it is, even with a half-baked attempt to tie into the plot of Logan.
But it isn't all bad, and so, here are the few bright spots which prevent The New Mutants from being a one-star trainwreck...
