3. Angourie Rice Is A Revelation

Warner Bros. Pictures

With Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe (as well as Keith David and Kim Basinger in smaller roles), The Nice Guys is a pretty starry film, yet its most remarkable acting turn comes from a complete unknown.

Angourie Rice plays Holly March, the thirteen year-old daughter of Gosling's character. Child actors are notoriously hit-and-miss, even when they get into their teens, but from her very first scene Rice is wholly convincing as a confident, wise-beyond-her-years motivator and moral compass for the central duo. She's smarter, faster and in some ways more worldly-wise than her father, and emerges as a strong third arm to the central dynamic.

Rice has only a few acting credits to her name - mostly short films from her native Australia - but stands right alongside the A-List talent with confidence. Keep an eye on this one.
