The Russos Tease Captain Marvel Appearing In Avengers: Infinity War

It's a maybe, but don't hold your breath for Squirrel Girl...

With Brie Larson cast as Captain Marvel, you could have reasonably assumed that she was being set up for a debut appearance in the next Avengers movie. The timing feels right, even if Kevin Feiege has previously said Marvel will not arrive fully formed anywhere before her own movie. Still, Carol Danvers still could, right?

Well, Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo have been teasing the possibility, having been asked about it during the early promotion of Captain America: Civil War's blu-ray release.

They were initially asked whether we'd get to see Anna Kendrick as Squirrel Girl in Infinity War after a tide of fan favouritism. It doesn't sound likely, unsurprisingly, according to Joe Russo:

“It would be perfect casting, and we’re huge Anna Kendrick fans. [We have our] hands full trying to tell the story we have with our preexisting characters. Anthony would probably die from exhaustion if we introduced another character.”

And then Anthony dropped the teaser:

“That’s not to say we’re not going to introduce a new character.”

Carol Danvers?

“If they ever cast that role, maybe... Do you know if they’ve cast it yet? That’s one we’re going to have to plead the fifth on.”

It's not concrete, but it's certainly a distinct possibility, and as ever, refusing to rule something out makes it seem awfully like you've got something to hide.

The Russos were also asked about the mooted 67-character roster for Infinity War and if it's been trimmed yet. They said:

“Yeah, it’s down to 66.Remember Dr. Fine, [the S.H.I.E.L.D. surgeon] from Winter Soldier? He’s off the board. Wanted too much money.” What do you think?

Funny guys.
