25. Iron Man - Iron Man's Journey

Iron Man, the MCU's excellent debut film, is a hugely effective superhero origin story that really stands out among other superhero films of the 2000s. Why is this?

Well, the film has many other qualities such as strong production values, thrilling action and an outstanding lead performance from Robert Downey Jr, but the thing which takes this up another level is the film's terrific character development.

The film's script does a remarkable job of making Tony Stark evolve from an arrogant and amoral weapons dealer to a loveable hero, and his growth throughout the film is done in an incredibly satisfying and touching manner.

Much of the time Iron Man is fairly light on action and focuses instead on character-building, making this movie often feel more like a character study that just happens to be about a superhero - and that is a great thing.
