19. Iron Man 3 - Shane Black's Screenplay

Shane Black no doubt seemed like a pretty odd choice to write and direct Iron Man 3 at first, but he certainly proved himself up to the challenge and seamlessly made the transition from buddy cop movies to the superhero genre. He delivered a seriously good screenplay that helped make Iron Man 3 one of the franchise's best films.

Iron Man 3 has a terrific character arc for Iron Man, some incredible action sequences and a remarkably effective mixture of gleeful comedy and darker moments that ensure the movie is fun without ever becoming frivolous.

Oh, and the Mandarin twist was hilarious, subversive and completely brilliant. (Just saying.)

There are missteps of course, such as the whole Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall) subplot, but for the most part Shane Black's work on Iron Man 3 was terrific.
