With San Diego Comic Con unable to go ahead as scheduled in 2020, it seemed that fans weren't going to get the plethora of news we're used to every summer. Yet, with the FanDome, DC were able to bring the news of their upcoming projects to the entire world in a way like never before.

Some panels revealed new trailers, and some just brought new concept art to the table. One of the most anticipated panels, that of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, brought a behind the scenes look and more importantly, it confirmed exactly which characters were joining the team in 2021.

Ever since the director released the huge cast list, but with no confirmed characters attached to them, the speculation has been growing and growing. Though four characters were known to be returning from David Ayer's Suicide Squad in 2016, and leaked set pictures heavily suggested so too will several others, the majority of the team were still up for debate.

With the exception of the mystery character Taika Waititi will be portraying, one who the director has decided to keep under wraps for now, neglecting to even acknowledge the actor on the Fandome panel, we know who will be making up James Gunn's squad. As he did with Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn is reaching far into the realms of comic book obscurity, to characters known by very few in the mainstream.

So who exactly are these characters, and what will they be bringing to the table?

20. General Mateo Suarez

At this time, there is still very little known about Joaquin Cosio's character in The Suicide Squad, other than his name. It's unknown how big of a role Major General Suarez will play in the movie, what impact he will have on the narrative, or even which side he will be playing for.

With no strong leads from that particular name back into the history of DC comics, the character's role is anyone's guess. All we can assume is that with his title, he will have a lot of power behind him, something which is likely to cause a problem for the squad at one point or another.
