1. The Undeniably Basic Plot

This movie is such a pervasively fun time that there's only one real issue with it, and it's hardly a deal breaker by any means.

Gunn clearly made a pragmatic decision to focus his creative energies on his characters and the wacky scenarios they get themselves into, while folding them into an incredibly straight-forward, even generic core narrative.

In its most basic terms the story is a pretty typical Dirty Dozen-esque men-and-women-on-a-mission setup, which is collided with the conventions of a monster movie later on.

Yet Gunn does such a fantastic job of propelling the film along with humour and violence that, honestly, few are likely to care too much about it hardly being a masterclass of intricate storytelling.
