4. It's A Surprisingly Sweet Buddy Movie

As undeniably silly as this film is, it's also got a surprisingly sturdy emotional core, brought out by Cage's dynamic with both Javi and his own family.

Cage and Javi bond over their profound love of movies as an art form and even start writing their own film, all while working through their respective personal issues - Cage's struggle to connect with his family and Javi's inability to get out from under his cousin.

Cage and Javi's bromantic dynamic is unexpectedly heart-warming, as are Cage's attempts to better understand his exasperated ex-wife Olivia (a terrific Sharon Horgan) and daughter Addy (Lily Sheen).

The latter has an especially cute payoff late in the film that offers up more emotional resonance than surely anyone could've anticipated from a movie where Nic Cage plays himself.
