Thor: 10 Times The MCU Movies Were Better Than The Comics

2. Hela Is Thor's Sister

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been praised for its astounding ability maintain its quality for over a decade. However, critics can't help pointing out the series has a nasty habit of making villains very one-dimensional. Although baddies like Malekith the Accursed, Ronan the Accuser, and Red Skull are extremely charismatic in the comics, they are come across as generic on the big screen.

So, when the Goddess of Death, Hela, was announced as the big bad of Thor: Ragnarok, comic fans were justifiably skeptical. Even though she's a force to be reckoned with, fans were worried that this one-note baddie would be forgettable.

But instead of making her an actual Goddess of Death, Hela was rewritten as Thor's long-lost sister, and the rightful heir to Asgard's throne. Not only did this decision give the character a less cliched motivation, it expanded the history of Thor, Odin, Loki, and Asgard. If Hela was identical to the source material, viewers wouldn't be as invested watching her battle the titular hero. But since the two are brother and sister, it makes their feud more tragic.
