2. Hela

Marvel Studios

It's about time we had a villain introduced into the MCU with Earth-shattering potential (okay, yeah Thanos is coming, but he's still taking his sweet time with it), and it definitely looks like Hela lives up to her billing.

Looking like every emo rock-chick from around 2002, she's also mercifully not just a dark retread of Galadriel (which must have been slightly tempting), offering menace and a simmering cool that only Cate Blanchett could manage. Not only do we get an immediate sense of her mythology (thanks to the hints of flash-backs), we also get a firm promise of how powerful she is - she can't just wield Mjolnir, she can shatter it like a toy.

That sort of power hasn't been seen anywhere in the MCU before, and smashing an artefact that powerful is a pretty clear indication that all bets are now off.

If it does turn out that she's the object of Thanos' affection for Infinity War in place of Lady Death, you will find absolutely no complaint from round these parts.
