The recently published book Agent Zizag: A True Story of Nazi Espionage, Love, and Betrayal has just been optioned by New Line with Tom Hanks on board to produce. The Ben Macintyre book which has only just recently been published in the U.S. to some great reviews, revolves around the true story of British officer Eddie Chapman and his life as a spy on the Germans during the Second World War. The book is actually one of two biographies on Chapman's life that ironically have been released almost at the same time, the other coming from author Nicholas Booth, titled Zizag: The Incredible Wartime Exploits of Double Agent Eddie Chapman. The deal was said to be a high six figure one but Variety have no more details at this time. This past year we were lucky enough to see Paul Verhoeven's great WWII movie Black Book where lead actress Carice Van Houten was used as a spy to get close to German officials and what that resulted in for me was one of the most exciting two hours of cinema I have seen this year. There's nothing quite like sharing a secret with a character and putting yourself in their shoes as they try and deceive and put their own life in danger playing the role of someone they are not 24/7, where one slip up would mean certain death. If you haven't seen Black Book then I urge you to go out and give it a go. Once you have, you will probably start anticipating this new movie as much as I am.
