Tom Hardy: Ranking His 6 Recent Roles

By Andy Wong /

4. Ricki Tarr (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy)

Another critically acclaimed film under his belt, Tom Hardy starred as Ricki Tarr in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. The whole premise and point of the film stems from a simple claim by his character that there is a mole in the British Intelligence. Like Inception, Hardy's character is part of an ensemble cast making it hard to stand out. However, he does so easily in this film due to the nature and look of his character. Tarr's infatuation with the character Irina romanticizes a film in drastic need of light - or any sort of emotion on that. His naive, almost childish demeanor sharply contrasts that of any other character, making him a sort of oasis in the desert of grit. Due to this, he once again is an MSLS and very similar to the character of Tuck in This Means War - the hopeless romantic. He doesn't quite belong with everyone else as his whole personality is "off" in terms of the tone that the film sets. Unlike some characters who stick out badly - like Chelsea Handler in This Means War - the film wouldn't be whole without his presence and relies on it for that extra kick that viewers can't get enough of. Though he isn't given a lot of screen time, the next character on the list solves that problem.
