Although based around the filming of cult €˜classic€™ Plan Nine from Out of Space, the biopic Ed Wood dedicates a lot of its time to the friendship between Johnny Depp€™s Edward D Wood Jr, often cited as the worst director of all time, and former Hollywood star Bela €˜Count Dracula€™ Lugosi. Lugosi, by the time the film is set, is a washed-up foul-mouthed drug addict who€™s only friend in the world seems to be the idealistic Wood who believes he can catapult Lugosi back to stardom. Though it may be an unflattering portrayal of the actor, Landau is compelling as Lugosi and deservedly won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role. He also has the perfect entrance; Ed Wood finds him sleeping in a coffin in a funeral parlour.
