1. The Fantastic Musical Score

In addition to its marvelous sound design and spectacular visuals, Maverick also benefits massively from a stellar musical score by way of original Top Gun composer Harold Faltermeyer, working alongside Hans Zimmer, Lorne Balfe, and Lady Gaga.

While much of the score shamelessly invokes the iconic touchstones from the original, the new compositions are themselves thrillingly operatic and effortlessly elevate the intense action and soaring emotions on-screen.

Also brace yourselves for Gaga's closing track "Hold My Hand," which ends the film on a highly poignant note, even if it's unlikely to become anywhere near as iconic as Berlin's Oscar-winning "Take My Breath Away" from the original movie.

And yes, for anyone dying to know, Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone" does indeed briefly play in the movie.
