The usual cliché for Presidents in film is either A. President in crisis or B. President in love, in Rob Reiner'sTHE AMERICAN PRESIDENT, Michael Douglas€™ President Shepherd falls into category B. Shepherd is hugely popular in the polls but his personal life is anything but a success. A widower, he soon falls for Annette Benning's feisty environmentalist, but in turn takes a battering at the polls. Eventually though he turns it around and his love makes him a better President and a better man, he even gets the girl, it wouldn€™t be much of a romantic comedy if he didn€™t now would it?
