TOY STORY in 3-D!

By Matt Holmes /

A little over ten years ago, I was literally pissed that Pixar were in the process of making a sequel to their absolute classic film TOY STORY. This is Disney remember, that company who brought the world the most amazing pieces of animation in the 20th century but would later in an attempt to capitalize on uninformed parents, release second-rate rip-off sequels with little effort or imagination. Thankfully, unbelievably when I was sitting in that theatre in 1999... TOY STORY 2 was every bit as amazing as the original movie. It was a rare and spectacular sight. The word from Variety is that the much talked about TOY STORY 3 is still on course for a June 2010 release, and that it will be given the 3-D makeover. But whilst that news was expected by many, the really cool news is that TOY STORY and it's sequel TOY STORY 2 will be re-released in 3-D in run-up to the third film's release. Toy Story will be released on October 2nd 2009, it's sequel on February 12th 2010 all on 3-D screens.

Plot details over the third film are still very much a taboo subject over at Pixar, all we really know so far is TOY STORY 2 co-director Lee Unkrick is directing the movie solo with Pixar head-honcho John Lasseter over seeing all aspects of the film as supervisor. We also know that Tim Allen will be back to voice Buzz Lightyear, Tom Hanks back for Woody and it's pretty much a given that the likes of John Ratzenberger, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles and Annie Potts would all return to voice their supporting characters. Despite the success of TOY STORY 2, I'm sure your the same as me and you have that nervous anticipation over the next movie. You so badly want it to be amazing but you know your likely being setup for a disappointment. Though Pixar's track record with these characters is 100% positive, maybe we should try and relax.
