18. The Wine Bottle - Freaky

Despite being positively received by critics and audiences alike, Christopher Landon's body-swap horror-comedy Freaky came and went rather quietly in 2020 - likely a result of releasing during a peak of the pandemic.

But Landon's film opens with one hell of a brutal practical effects kill that absolutely deserves to be remembered, when the serial killer known as the Blissfield Butcher (Vince Vaughn) attacks a group of teenagers.

The most memorable kill is reserved for poor Isaac (Nicholas Stargel), who is cornered in a wine cellar and has a wine bottle forcibly shoved down his throat by the Butcher.

This culminates in the bottle creating a massive bulge in Isaac's neck, and as he dies, the Butcher goes one further by smacking the bottle even further down his oesophagus. 

At this point it explodes, causing glass splinters to fire out of Isaac's throat, which Landon captures in gnarly detail.
