20. A Nightmare on Elm Street Reboot

After almost 20 years of inactivity, we're finally getting a reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street, and while the challenge of finding an actor who can live up to Robert Englund's performance as Freddy Krueger speaks for itself, that's far from the biggest issue facing this production.

Back in July, we learned that Paramount have acquired the U.S. rights to the original Elm Street script from the state of Wes Craven and were planning to produce a reboot, all while Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema would retain the series' international rights.

Hilariously, the very same month Warner Bros. announced their own competing Elm Street project, both of which are racing to enter production before the Paramount-Warner merger closes.

Apparently, which ever of the two films is furthest along in development by that point will be the one that gets the greenlight.

Of course that doesn't sound encouraging at all, that the future of the Elm Street franchise is based entirely on a corporate deadline rather than, y'know, someone having a genuinely great idea for a new Elm Street.

For now, keeping your expectations low is the only sane choice.
