9. Charlize Theron - The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has one of the most mind-bogglingly stacked casts of the year, because of course it does, and until recently, there was considerable speculation about who exactly Charlize Theron would be playing in the film.

The early word suggested that Theron would most likely be Circe, the Greek goddess best known as the daughter of sun god Helios, who possesses a vast knowledge of potions and herbs and has a penchant for turning her enemies into animals.

But footage recently screened to audiences at CinemaCon confirmed that this actually isn't the case, and Theron will instead be playing Calypso, the nymph who resides on the island of Ogygia and tries to keep Odysseus (Matt Damon) as her immortal husband.

Yeah, it's not much of a leap to see how Theron could nail the role of a statuesque seductress, and it'll certainly be a blast to see her finally working with one of our greatest living filmmakers.
