11. The Insane Colour Grade - Digger

One of the most anticipated films of the year among cinephiles is undeniably Alejandro G. Iñárritu's black comedy Digger, which is being hailed as an ultra-ambitious return to Real Acting for Tom Cruise after years in the blockbuster arena.

The recently released trailer certainly suggests that Cruise is cooking up an acting storm as oil tycoon Digger Rockwell, though many also pointed out the film's bizarre colour grading choices.

That is to say, Digger is presented with a thoroughly washed-out colour palette, enough that some initially thought Warner Bros. had accidentally published an un-graded version of the trailer.

But it's absolutely a creative choice on the part of Iñárritu and his team, and one which many have likened to the deliberately pallid, painterly visual style of filmmaker Roy Andersson.

All the same, if Warner Bros. wants this $125 million film to actually turn a profit, they might've shot themselves in the foot here, considering the aesthetic choices are going to be hugely offputting to mainstream moviegoers.

This is backed up by the trailer's paltry YouTube views so far, suggesting the studio faces a massive uphill struggle dragging this one to profitability, no matter how well it turns out.
