7. Looking Too Much Like CGI - Wildwood

Now this sure is a tricky one alright. 

The trailers for Laika's new stop-motion animated film Wildwood look basically amazing, but there is also something of an uncanny quality to the visuals, in the sense that the animation is so jaw-droppingly fluid that it barely looks like stop-motion at all, as some fans have pointed out on social media.

"It looks too good" is definitely a good problem to have - to a point at least - but for those who love the charm of stop-motion with all of its jitteriness and hand-crafted imperfections, Wildwood looks so immaculate to the point that something actually feels lost.

Laika striving for such technical excellence might well help the film perform better at the box office considering the mainstream's frustrating aversion to stop-motion, but in purely artistic terms, there are many who will lament that it's a bit too slick and CGI-looking for its own good.
