3. Wind River: The Next Chapter

Taylor Sheridan is one of the most successful screenwriters working today, but of all his movies to spin off into a series, why go with Wind River?

Sheridan's superb 2017 crime thriller Wind River was a modest commercial success, but nothing about its closed-off story suggested franchise potential.

And yet, in late 2022 the imaginatively-titled sequel Wind River: The Next Chapter was announced, with Sheridan having no creative involvement with the project while the only returning cast members are Martin Sensmeier and Gil Birmingham.

That is to say, original stars Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen wanted nothing to do with it.

The film was shot under director Kari Skogland (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) back in early 2023, and almost three years later it still hasn't been released nor have we seen even a single official image from it.

Jason Clarke recently claimed the film spent years locked up in legal red tape which has since been resolved, but even so, there are precious few waiting for this one with bated breath.
