20 Upcoming Movies Facing Huge Issues
These movies have some serious hurdles to overcome.
Making any movie, good or bad, is immensely difficult, typically requiring hundreds of creatives and business-folk to pool their skills in the hope of dragging the thing over the finish line.
And while the right ingredients never guarantee that a film will still turn out great, sometimes there's very clear writing on the wall long before release that a film is facing some serious issues.
That's absolutely the case with these 20 films which, regardless of how far into production they are, are staring down some considerable problems, whether purely creative or business matters behind-the-scenes.
Now to be clear, this doesn't mean that these 20 films will all turn out badly, but simply that they'll need to tackle these overpowering challenges in order to ensure success.
For instance - one certain blockbuster sequel needs to get its budget in check, while another film is stuck facing stiff competition on its release date, and there's also a novel adaptation whose author has straight-up disowned the production.
We'll have to wait and see how each of these films turns out in the end, but there's surely going to be plenty more drama before it's all said and done...
20. The Bloated Budget - Fast Forever
Fast Forever is intended to be the grand finale for the Fast and the Furious franchise, though after 2023's Fast X underperformed at the box office against a gargantuan budget of almost $400 million, reports emerged that Universal was keen to deliver a more budgetarily disciplined closing installment.
The studio apparently won't make Fast Forever unless it can be produced for less than $200 million, requiring a reduction in both stunts and cast, and though star-producer Vin Diesel swiftly claimed these issues had been dealt with, the sequel still hasn't started shooting.
In a recent interview, Alan Ritchson - who joined the series' ballooning ensemble in Fast X - said that the ongoing delays were due to the production being "too expensive," and though he was optimistic it would get shot eventually, he also said it had a "lot of obstacles" to clear first.
A more pared-down Fast and Furious movie isn't the worst idea in the world considering how bloated and unwieldy these films have become, but does anyone really trust Vin Diesel and co. to not deliver an absolute mess of a movie as they desperately race to trim the fat?
