Belated comedy sequels are a tough nut to crack at the best of times, and that's doubly true when you're dealing with an IP as aggressively of-its-time as Ali G.

Sacha Baron Cohen recently announced that a sequel to 2002's Ali G Indahouse, Ali G: Who Iz I?, was secretly shot last year and will release this October, to which many simply asked - "Why?"

Ali G was an undeniable staple of early-aughts British pop culture, but the world has moved on since then, and if the trailer for the new film is any indication, Cohen's shtick seems painfully stuck in the past.

While the film will surely make a game effort to exploit any residual nostalgia for Ali G as a character, how many people are really angling for another Ali G film in 2026? 

His time passed a long time ago, and yet with the film getting a theatrical release rather than going straight to streaming as many expected, it seems destined to flop amid thunderous indifference.
