20 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Might Be Better Than The First
2. Alita: Battle Angel 2
Alita: Battle Angel may have been a mild box office disappointment, but fan enthusiasm for a follow-up to the cyberpunk manga adaptation has remained high over the seven years since its release.
Last November, director Robert Rodriguez and producer-writer James Cameron confirmed that they were still actively developing a sequel, having even made a "blood oath" to get Battle Angel 2 made one way or another.
And honestly, the potential for the second film to be a marked improvement over the first is enormous.
Though the original film was visually stunning and Rosa Salazar gave a strong performance as Alita, most of its problems pertained to the clunky, awkward writing, particularly that of Alita's love interest Hugo (Keean Johnson).
The bones of a great movie were there, but it just didn't fully come together.
If a sequel steered away from the cornier aspects of the original while continuing to build out its lavish world, it could easily be much, much better.
