7. Moana 2

Though Disney hadn't officially announced it, it was a given that if their recent live-action remake of 2016's animated hit Moana was a box office triumph, they would've swiftly remade its even more successful 2024 sequel.

But the remake was a colossal bomb, grossing just $315.5 million against its mammoth $250 million budget, making it one of the lowest-grossing of all the live-action Disney remakes.

For many, there simply wasn't much appeal to watching a remake of a film produced just a decade ago, and which of course still holds up extremely well. 

Couple this with general fatigue surrounding Disney's industrious remake mission and poor marketing, and it shouldn't be that surprising that Moana flopped.

And in turn, don't expect to ever hear anything about a Moana 2 remake. 

Disney will keep remaking their most beloved animations, for sure, but Moana's box office collapse sends a clear message about what fans want from the IP - and it's not this.
