20 Upcoming Movies That Just Got Cancelled

18. Supergirl 2

Though it wasn't officially announced, it was a given that the recent Supergirl reboot was intended to launch a run of movies starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El.

With the character first being introduced in last year's Superman and also appearing in upcoming sequel Man of Tomorrow, she's clearly a cornerstone around which James Gunn's DC Universe is being built, with DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran recently confirming that the franchise has big plans for her beyond this.

But the nascent franchise hit something of a stumbling block with Supergirl's recent box office failure.

Not merely underperforming relative to its $186 million budget, Supergirl flat-out tanked, grossing a brutal $126.4 million globally.

The beauty of not announcing Supergirl 2 publicly, of course, is that Warner Bros. can quietly cancel the film while saving face, but had this film been even remotely successful - grossing, say, $400 million or more - it goes without saying that a sequel would've been a high priority for Chapter Two of the DC Universe.
