6. Crimson Tide 2

Crimson Tide is an absolute banger - a sweaty-palmed classic '90s action thriller which makes the absolute most of pitting Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman against one another inside a submarine.

Though critically and commercially successful, there was nothing about it that suggested much desire for a sequel - it was a single, closed-off story with no clear thread for a follow-up.

Yet in July 2025, producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that he was developing a Crimson Tide sequel, with the hope that Denzel Washington would return in the role of Lieutenant Commander Ron Hunter.

Even if you can ignore the implausibility of a 71-year-old Washington playing a submarine officer well past the legally mandated retirement age, there's simply scarce enough nostalgia for Crimson Tide, great though it is, to justify a sequel.

Plus, with Washington's aversion to sequels, and the rather middling quality of the ones he has appeared in - Equalizer 2 and 3, and Gladiator II - and the fact that director Tony Scott passed away in 2012, this is probably best left alone.
