Warner Brothers moving ahead with Logan's Run remake
Back in May, we heard that former architect turned film-maker Joe Kosinski was to make his directing debut with a remake of the cult classic film Logan's Run after Bryan Singer pulled out after years of trying to get the film off the ground. The Hollywood Reporter today have confirmed this news and also mention that Warner Brothers are moving forward with the movie now though they don't give us a start date. They say that Children of Men co-scribe Tim Sexton is now writing the script, which is probably the 10th different draft we've seen in a couple of years. I love Logan's Run but I'm not the only one on this site who believes the story has some untapped potential and if handled correctly, could be an absolutely awesome sci-fi flick. It was only a few weeks back that our writer James Clayton wrote a nice article expressing his love for the original but his desire for it to be turned into something magnificent. The idea for the remake is to stick more closely to the book than the original 1976 film starring Michael York and Jenny Agutter did. A little like Children of Men (which is probably why they have hired the writer they have) the setting will be very low-tech and not much different from today but still set in the future. Apart from that, it sounds like the same good old story. Could this movie be finally happening now after over three years since Singer first announced his intentions to remake Logan's Run? Logan's Run is one of those films that I have no problem being remade and in truth I fully endorse it. Just because one adaptation of a book has already been made, surely doesn't mean that book can never be turned into a film again by another director with a different vision. It's happening soon with I Am Legend, so why not Logan's Run? Thanks to Slash Film, they have pointed us towards some of Kosinski's commercial work, including the awesome trailer for Gears of War which I'm sure sold very many copies of that game and probably the Xbox 360 console also...
