17. Barbarella Remake

Various attempts to reboot and remake the classic 1968 sci-fi film Barbarella have been made over the decades, but it's looking like this latest effort just might stick.

In 2022, Sony Pictures announced that a new Barbarella movie was in the works with Sydney Sweeney set to star as the title character previously played so memorably by Jane Fonda. Sweeney will also executive produce.

As one of the sure-fire Hollywood sex symbols of today, Sweeney certainly seems like a logical enough casting choice, but things got far more unexpected when, in 2024, Edgar Wright was signed to direct a script co-written by Jane Goldman (Kingsman) and her daughter Honey.

But we heard little about the film in the two years that followed, and with both Sweeney's increasingly busy schedule and the recent failure of Wright's remake of The Running Man, it would've surprised nobody if the project just quietly went away.

But mere weeks ago it was confirmed that the new Barbarella was actually still a thing, with Sweeney set to produce it under her newly minted production company, Honey Trap.
