Craven's interpretation is a dark, deep dive into the world of voodoo and its culture - as interesting as it is scary to watch open up throughout the movie.

The clash between the government regime alongside the dark magic of Haiti is a great juxtaposition to see, with Craven adeptly weaving between two different types of horror as the film goes on.

It's camp, and unavoidably smeared with Craven's fingerprints all over - but it works well as a film that has a streak of reality running through the middle of it, bringing a unique take on terrifying concepts to the big screen.
