What Happened When Luke Skywalker FOUGHT The Knights Of Ren
Because engaging in a 7-on-1 fight against a Jedi Master was always going to work out well...
Whether you’ve loved or loathed the recently-concluded Star Wars sequel trilogy, one thing we can all likely agree on is that the Knights of Ren were criminally underused.
Introduced in The Force Awakens, Kylo Ren’s Knights looked utterly badass and it was presumed we’d get to see a little more of their story as the trilogy progressed. Only we didn’t.
Completely omitted from The Last Jedi, the Knights of Ren’s presence in The Rise of Skywalker was largely just to be bested by Adam Driver’s reformed Ben Solo in the movie’s final act. Fortunately, readers of the ongoing Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren comic book title have been given the chance to see more from the villainous sect… but unfortunately for the Knights themselves, they were left humbled and embarrassed, courtesy of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.
In the second issue of Charles Soule and Will Sliney's The Rise of Kylo Ren, Luke, Lor San Tekka (a character glimpsed in The Force Awakens' opening moments), and a pre-Kylo Ben Solo find themselves exploring an old Jedi temple on the planet Elphrona. When confronted by the Knights of Ren, Luke doesn’t hesitate to take on all seven of the group.
While it’s interesting to learn that the leader of the Knights of Ren goes by the name Ren and that ‘Ren’ is supposedly a term for lightsaber, The Rise of Kylo Ren #2 sees Skywalker unfazed at the prospect of a seven-on-one battle. Not only that, but the iconic Jedi Master ends up coming out on top, as the Knights decide to pull back in order to fight another day.
So, if you were looking for some stunning Knights of Ren action that would live up to the hype that has so often surrounded these warriors throughout the promotional push of this most recent trilogy of Star Wars films, yet again you’ll be left disappointed by what plays out within the pages of Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren - even if this confrontation did sow the seed for Ben Solo later joining forces with the Knights of Ren.
Still, for any Star Wars fans out there, The Rise of Kylo Ren is proving to be quite the impressive title in its two issues so far. If you’re looking to take another trip to a galaxy far, far away, you could do a lot worse than adding The Rise of Kylo Ren to your reading pile. Likewise, the recently-launched Star Wars #1 is a fascinating read that examines the immediate fallout of The Empire Strikes Back. All in all, Marvel's Star Wars titles are in a really good place.
