George Lucas is now officially attached to the upcoming Star Wars Episode 7, this time in the somewhat creatively distant role of consultant. Lucas spoke with Access Hollywood on Saturday at the Governor's Awards in L.A, shedding light on exactly what that might entail. Lucas revealed:
,Whos this guy? I can tell them. I mean, they have a hundred encyclopedias and things, but I actually know a lot. I can say, This is this and this is that."
However, when pressed for details as to how much creative input he'll have over the upcoming films, he said:
Basically I dont really have much to do,
This undoubtedly comes as a relief to many, addressing the fears that the traditionally controlling filmmaker would be placed in a position to second-guess any new director during the production process. But with Lucas now limited to the role of consultant, it's likely that the franchise will gravitate in an entirely new creative direction which will likely delight the thousands of fans who considered the new trilogy to be under-par. Disney will reportedly be taking a similar approach to 'Marvel' for their upcoming Star Wars trilogy by releasing a new movie once ever 2-3 years, with each focusing on different elements of the Star Wars Universe. Star Wars: Episode 7 is scheduled for release in 2015.
