News broke over the weekend (courtesy of Variety) that The Americans star Keri Russell will be joining the J.J. Abrams-directed movie (the pair previously worked together on Mission: Impossible III), which will close out Disney's sequel trilogy.

It's a stellar bit of casting for the movie, which needs to add to its ranks after losing a few key players in The Last Jedi (along with the sad passing of Carrie Fisher). Thanks to her leading role as Elizabeth Jennings on the FX Soviet spy drama, Russell has established herself as one of the very best actresses on TV right now, with a great range that would lend itself well to either side of the Light/Dark divide, and she has the ability to handle action sequences too.

Hopefully this isn't just a minor role, as we've seen a few top talents wasted in the saga recently, but instead something for Russell to really sink her teeth into. With it being the final movie of the trilogy there aren't countless possibilities, but there are a few intriguing contenders for who she might be playing when Episode IX comes around next year.
