Who's staying in Joss Whedon's CABIN IN THE WOODS?

Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's co-written horror movie CABIN THE WOODS is still shrouded in mystery, some two years after we first caught wind of it. All we know at this late stage is that it's a horror movie, set around young adults in a cabin but somewhere along the line this classic setup is twisted into something else entirely. The trades compare it to CLOVERFIELD in it's originality, though again they don't know the plot. It's written by Whedon and Goddard... but will be directed by the later in his directorial debut (he wrote CLOVERFIELD) and will be produced by Whedon (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, SERENITY). We also know that Whedon called it €the horror movie to end all horror movies" in July 2007 and 18 months later has begun casting the picture, with actors that are "...first proof that though 'The Cabin in the Woods' is a classic horror film, it isn't one you've seen before."The Hollywood Reporter say great character actor Richard Jenkins (who became a great leading man last year in THE VISITOR) has joined the cast... THE WEST WING actor Bradley Whitford joins him (pending expected successful talks)...

"It's really just your basic typecasting: When you need two actors to run through the woods in low-cut nighties, you immediately think of Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford," Goddard joked.
Both will play white-collar workers with a connection to the Cabin. MGM will open the movie on February 5th 2010 with production beginning in the Spring. I absolutely adored CLOVERFIELD, one of my favourites of this year and possibly my favourite horror monster movie in quite some time. Can't wait to see what ingenius idea he has come up with this time and with Whedon's help at characterisation, this could easily be the best cabin horror movie since FRIDAY THE 13th!
