Will Smith puts on Seven Pounds

Project sees him re-team with the director of The Pursuit of Happyness for a movie about a guy who falls in love whilst attempting to kill himself.

The Pursuit of Happyness despite it's rather one-dimensional story, Will Smith put in a performance that was captivating and honest. Anyone that wasn't emotionally moved by the end of the third act must truly have a heart of ice. Smith was Oscar nominated for said performance but missed out to Forest Whitaker who was on another planet in The Last King of Scotland. Any other year and it might have been Smith's and it's actually the second time he has had to miss out on the glory after Ali in 2001 where he was again nominated but never reached the trophy. The guy isn't being bitter about it though and it sounds like he might give that Oscar hunt another go as Variety report he is to re-team with Gabriele Muccino, the director of The Pursuit of Happyness for Seven Pounds, a movie about a guy who falls in love as he attempts to commit suicide. The movie is being setup at Escape Artists and Smith's own Overbook Entertainment with the movie likley to end up at Sony. Smith is still out filming Hancock which ironically Gabriele Muccino was set to helm before creative differences saw him leave the project and be replaced by Peter Berg. Shooting is set to begin in February with a late 2008 release planned. I'm expecting more of the same from Muccino and Smith. Another great character driven performance with Muccino giving his actor every bit of opportunity to show what he could. If' it's as good as their last team-up, then this will be a very fine flick.
