Isn't it wonderful in this day and age of 3D eye damaging, CGI spectacles and motion-captured delights that Disney are readying an old school, hand drawn 2D animated Winnie The Pooh movie - some 35 years after Pooh's last big screen adventure. Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Eeyore and the whole gang are here and there's something positively comforting about the whole thing. News hit recently that the Indie darling Zooey Deschanel would be recording a new rendition of the Pooh theme song and that Bobby and Kristen Lopez would provide no less than seven new songs for the movie but there's only Keane's toneless hit Somewhere Only We Know playing over this trailer. Which doesn't really work but what does work for me is the beautiful imagery and sound of the characters. This is how you revive a classic and for the audience it was always supposed to be aimed at;Stephen J. Anderson (Meet the Robinsons) and Don Hall (writer of The Princess & The Frog) have co-directed the film with veteran Disney animator Burny Mattinson (who goes way back to the 1974 feature Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too). John Cleese narrates when the film opens June 2011 in the U.S. - but actually much sooner in the U.K. on April 15th.
