Wonder Woman 2 Will Have A Modern Setting

Sorry, history fans.

Thank God for Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. Despite those early suggestions that Wonder Woman was "doomed", the film is a triumph that transcends its patchier moments to be easily the best DCEU movie to date, and one of the best DC movies released so far.

Part of that success is thanks to the historical setting, which allows Jenkins to explore some strong ideas and put together some excellent action sequences, and it was hoped before release that we'd see more of the setting for the sequel. That was very much the desire for Captain America: The First Avenger, but as with Marvel's war-time movie, the ending of Wonder Woman makes it pretty difficult.

On the back of the film's success, we now know there's a sequel coming - which was inevitable anyway - and while Charles Roven says nothing has been written yet, confirmation has just dropped that the sequel will be set in the modern age.

As revealed by THR briefly, Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins are both contracted to the follow-up, which won't be a period piece. Given what she achieved with this first movie, seeing what Jenkins does next with the property is very exciting, even if it would be nice to have seen more in a historical setting - even a different one to World War I.

It makes sense that we'd jump forward in time, it's just a shame it has to come so quickly.
